MATCH-UPS SET FOR McCAIN SUPERSPIEL'04

FLORENCEVILLE/GRAND FALLS, N.B. - A first place prize of $15,000, a spot in the 2004 McCain TSN Skins Game and a chance to qualify for Canada Cup East -they're all at stake during McCain SuperSpiel '04.

Thirty-two top curling teams will face-off at Florenceville and Grand Falls Curling Clubs November 19-22.

First-round action will begin at noon with seven match-ups and the remaining first round games will go during the 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. draws.

The opening seven contests include Mike Robinson of Windsor, N.S., against two-time Canadian and World champion Glenn Howard of Coldwater, Ont.

McCain SuperSpiel '87 champion Brian Dobson takes on Jean-Michel Ménard of Ste. Foy, Que.

Don Westphal of Buckingham, Que., will challenge Al Hutchinson of Owen Sound, Ont. 2004 provincial champion Mike Harris of Oakville, Ont., will curl Jeff Cheal from Lennoxville, Que.

Newfoundland's Rick Rowsell faces McCain SuperSpiel '03 runner-up Heath McCormick while Bryan Cochrane of Ottawa, Ont., curls Mike Fournier of Lachine, Que. Mike Kennedy of Saint John will meet Brian Lewis of Ottawa, Ont.

Continuing first-round match-ups at 3:00 p.m. will include provincial champion Daniel Lafleur of Rosemère, Que., against Richard Chorkawy of Burlington, Ont. 2004 Canadian Junior champion Ryan Sherrard of Rothesay, N.B., takes on Peter Corner of Hamilton, Ont.

Florenceville playdown winner Vince Kilfoil meets Robert Desjardins of Chicoutimi, Que. Simon Dupuis of Thurso, Que., challenges Grand Falls playdown winner Joel Rioux.

Nova Scotia's Chad Stevens curls against two-time Canadian and World champion Russ Howard of Moncton, N.B., while Quebec's Guy Hemmings takes on Jim Sullivan of Saint John, N.B.

Completing the 3:00 p.m. match-ups is Scott Hill of Lachine Que., against Greg Balsdon of Guelph, Ont.

The final two games to complete the first-round match-ups are scheduled for 6:00 p.m.

Kirk Ziola of London, Ont., will take on McCain SuperSpiel '00 champion Brian Rafuse of Bridgewater, N.S. Steve Allen of Shawville, Que., takes on 2004 Newfoundland champion Brad Gushue.

All games will be played under the four-rock free guard zone rule and will be timed at 80 minutes per team, per game.

The competition continues on Saturday and Sunday, with championship section play scheduled for Monday. Spectators are welcome free of charge.

In addition to the $15,000 first prize in McCain SuperSpiel '04, the runner-up will receive $9,000, third and fourth place will earn $6,000 and fifth to eighth place will take home $3,500.

McCain SuperSpiel '04 is entering its 18th and final year in Florenceville and Grand Falls. It is the sister bonspiel to McCain SuperSpiel West in Portage la Prairie, Man.
